'Green' event case study coming in October 08

Concerned that despite all the focus on sustainability there is a lack of "how to" advice for organisations wanting to turn actions into words, a ground breaking How to Host Sustainable Events tool kit is being created in Wellington.

A detailed case study will be available by October 2008 to groups wanting to host an event that has the least possible impact on the environment at all levels ranging from questions asked of clients, venues and other suppliers, special ideas such as clipping tickets, transport initiatives, training of all staff on site, satchels and much more.

This project is being driven by Clockwork Event Management, the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ) and the Wellington Convention Centre (WCC).

HRINZ's annual conference in Wellington in September 2008 is focussing on sustainability issues and will form the "live" case study that will result in the "how to" guide on holding a sustainable event.

"There's a lot of talk, a lot of jargon and a lot of confusion about sustainability.  We wanted to contribute something black and white, that anyone could understand and adopt," said Neville Brown.  "And because it's so important we knew we had to share our findings with as wide an audience as possible."

"Look, at the end of the day it is a bit of a time poor world in business and if we can make it easy for others then our job is done," said Lisa Garrity.

Beverley Main, "The case study will be available in October 2008 as a PDF document and all proceeds will be donated to Sustainable Future www.sustainablefuture.info
